What's So Great About Good Health?

Today, I tried to introduce fake bacon in to our household. In terms of calories and fat, it wins over bacon. But even in a B.L.T., it kind of sucks. Maybe we'll try turkey bacon next.

Bacon is a divine meat product for which there is no substitute. If one gives it up for moral, ethical, health or other reasons, you just have to mourn the loss and move on. However, turkey "bacon" isn't bad, just don't pretend that you're eating the real deal.

I agree with Anna: Bacon is the most divine and holy of meat products. It's all or nothing with bacon, there is no "substitute." I say hold a funeral for bacon and grieve its loss in a profound and meaningful way. You will have to cry, and cry from you gut, really let it out. This will make you feel good for about 30 minutes, afterwhich you'll have to live a life of chronic suffering without bacon. Or, you could just make it a treat and eat it once a month or something.

Whoa! Just a minute. I am not eliminating bacon from my diet! I'm just trying to cut back and thought fake bacon might work for my almost weekly B.L.T. My goal is to cut back to twice a month.

By the way -- other good pig meats include high quality ham, ground pork in sausage or dumplings, pork loin, and pork chops. The other white meat, chicken, has far fewer parts and thus less versatility. To be sure, I'd give up chicken before pig.

Pig is so good and I'm glad I wasn't born into a kosher family.

I have tried turkey bacon and I think it's pretty good. But before you take your first bite - you must tell yourself, "I'm about to eat a piece of turkey." Then you will be pleasantly surprised when it kind of tastes like bacon.

I will be using 20 lbs of pork butt cut in the chili for Friday's big chili cook-off.
