Is it stealing to take (or borrow without returning) magazines from waiting rooms and lounges? I'm not admitting anything, but I'm tempted to take magazines I'd never buy like Prevention and Good Housekeeping.
My mom does an opposite kind of thing. She deposits old issues of The Nation in waiting rooms and lounges frequented by old white people she thinks need reeducating.

One time when I had my manicure appointment I saw that the owner has Marie Claire issue I wanted but I didn't get it because it was sold out so I asked her if I can borrow it. She said yes but I never reuturned it. And when I was pregnant it happenned many times we had to wait a while for ultrashine appointments in the waiting rooms, the nurse told us we can take magazines at home so I did. If I see that there are 2 copies of the same issue of the magazine in the waiting room and if there is something interesting for me in it I take it home.
Ha!
I'm with your mom.
And usually, if you ask if you can have an old magazine in a waiting room, they'll give it to you.
I love taking Sunday's NY Times left behind by people in coffee shops, and the ocassional expensive glossy magazine at the hair or nail salon...
I am a thief!!!
I always bring my own magazines & get paranoid they think I am stealing when I stuff it back in my bag.
I always read copies of the Times when they are left over at Starbuck's. I find a lot of guys just read the sports section and leave the rest of the paper behind, so I read the other sections for free a lot of times, but it balances out bc I also buy it a lot
I tend to only steal weird stuff - like flatware from restaurants, or dishes I think I are interesting, or once a half a bottle of wine from a wedding.
When I was really poor a friend and I used to go to posh stores that had tampons and lotion and other goodies out in the ladies room and we would stuff our bags. We figured we were like Robin Hood.
So magazines? Go on ahead!
I think most waiting rooms EXPECT that their magazines will dissappear & so wouldn't consider anyone a thief for taking them. But at the same time, if you don't feel comfortable just taking without asking- ask. What I hate is the gaping holes left behind in magazines by people who just ripped out one article or one picture (perhaps of a hairstyle they'd like) or coupons.
