I know I'm a little late on the wedding comment. But OMG weddings are friggin expensive- even when you want to do somehting different, in fact different equals more money. People have cheesy weddings because they are cheaper. Cheesy photagrapher are cheaper than good ones. Cheesy flowers etc. are cheaper than simple ones. Planning a wedding is not very fun.
You should get someone you know to marry you in your backyard - I would if I wasn't so friggin' superstitious. I've convinced myself that having a Catholic ceremony is important.
