Me Lately

Many good friends are rocking out to this one:

Me, I've just returned from several days of working on a case in Bakersfield. If you can believe it, my hotel's tv channel selection did not include even one Spanish language option. Isn't that bizarre in this day and age? I can't help but suspect that, in a town with road names like Merle Haggard and Buck Owens Drives, the Sheraton opted for a black (or brown) out in its central valley facility.

Happy Valentine's Day

Scrabulous is back, and Elias and I are engaged in a V-Day themed game. Lower points than usual, but it's funny and smutty.

In other news, my brothers Ed and John are enjoying birthdays and aging this week.

Also, on the political front, I enjoyed this post.

Today Was Also Fat Tuesday!

Ash Wednesday (tomorrow) means Lent is here. Will you observe it and how?

Me, I am not likely to attend a single mass unless someone gets married or dies between now and Easter. (That sounds horrible I know.)

I do like to to give something up to test my strength and discipline. No meat on Fridays is easy. You know, fish doesn't count. When I was a kid, our cafeteria served McDonald's Fillet-O-Fish on Fridays during Lent.

I thought about giving up French fries, but Elias says that's not really a sacrifice. He might be right, as I only eat them 3 - 4 times a month. That leaves sweets and alcohol. Sweets would be the hardest, and I just can't do it. I need my daily dose(es) of sugar. Maybe alcohol. Or French fries... . I have until midnight to make it so.

GOTV!!!

Here are some general rules, people:
  • Polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to at least 8:00 p.m. Anyone in line at the time the polls close is allowed to vote.

  • Voters have the right to cast a provisional ballot even if their name is not listed on the voting rolls. If a voter is at the wrong polling location and has time to get to the correct polling location before polls close at 8:00 p.m., they should go to the correct one and vote with a regular ballot instead of voting with a provisional ballot at the wrong location.

  • If you declined to select a political party when you registered to vote, you can still vote for Barack Obama if you request a Democratic ballot from the poll worker. Make sure you mark "Democratic" in the appropriate space or the vote might not be counted.

  • Voters have the right to return a completed vote-by-mail ballot to any precinct in their county.

  • If you have any difficulties, you can call the California Obama Election Protection Hotline:

Progress For My Elias

Elias is rehabbing himself on the exercycle and doing well. He has started putting weight on the foot with the repaired achilles tendon. He thinks he'll be walking next week.

After I took this photo and a few others, he finally shaved. His mom, Judith, is in the background. She's been visiting and helping out for the last two weeks.
