Parenting

I'm sure everyone's heard the Alec Baldwin rant in which he calls his daughter a selfish pig. While I would never talk to my own* or anyone's child like that, I don't think it's child abuse. I don't think it's any of my business. I've heard worse in the supermarket. Etc.

In fact, I felt pretty pissed off at the media when the story ran last week. I was staying in a hotel in L.A. and switched on CNN rather than read the USA McNews Today that was chilling outside my door. Baldwin's message to his daughter was the top story!

The only good way to report on this kind of junk is to do it up like this funny piece in which the recorded message is put to some good use.

*Some times I jokingly tell my dogs that I will kick their f'-ing asses if they don't do what I tell them to, but they're in on the joke.

Should We Move?

Our neighborhood is getting rough. Our next door neighbor has been robbed at gunpoint twice this year right outside our building.

Elias's brother says we should move.

My mom says we should get a shotgun. She says at close range, shotguns can do some major damage. Today, I saw this link from kotke.com, and I'm leaning towards getting armed. It's sick, I know. It'll pass.

Our Life In Pictures

We're keeping him. So he had to get fixed. Poor Omar.

Elias made this yummy quiche for Easter.

Beth made this incredible cake. Elias thought it was Omar, but really it's a lamb.

Ed made deviled eggs. I understand from others that they were good.

Eggs

To know me is to know I don't eat eggs except when they're disguised. For example I don't mind cookies, cakes, brownies, and puddings that have eggs. I can't taste the egg, so I eat those things. I even eat quiche so long as there lots of veggies and meat to cover up the eggs.

That said, I appreciate eggs. I try to make omelets for Elias sometimes, but I don't know if I make them well, as I refuse to taste them. I also like the look of Easter eggs, but I can't imagine ever cracking one open and eating the hard boiled egg. On one hand, yuck! On the other, I feel kind of bad, like I'm missing out.

Check out for Martha and SF Chronicle for Easter egg making ideas.

Spring Holidays

Passover begins today. Read all about it, and someone please make this candy out of matzo crackers and send me some.

Me, I'll be celebrating Easter this weekend with brother Ed (who gave up beer for lent) and his lady (who gave up sweets). We'll celebrate their sacrifice/return to normalcy, but hopefully we'll reflect on some social justice stuff too. If only Anna Eng were around to join us.
